Building “Character” Through Improv
Get ready to break the rules with improv! Angelle Whavers and Nyoka Myers, program managers at Mighty Writers in Newark, will lead us through a series of fun and exciting exercises that encourage collaboration, promote creativity, and teach resiliency! This workshop promises to show you how to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable.”
About Angelle
Angelle Whavers, a Program Manager at Mighty Writers, is a Newark native with bachelor's degrees in theater and history from Drew University. Her plays have been performed by the Vulcan Theatre Company, Ghost Light Ensemble Theatre, Columbus Black Theatre Festival, New York Theater Festival, and the Growing Stage. Angelle has also worked with the Tectonic Theatre Project and is the recipient of The Chauncey Lester and Elsie Steward Benedict Memorial Prize for playwriting.
About Nyoka
Nyoka Myers, a Program Manager for Mighty Writers, is an experienced youth behavioral assistant who teaches the importance of literacy, emotional intelligence, and self-acceptance. A New York native, Nyoka performed spoken word throughout high school and went on to earn a bachelor's in Arts Administration and Spanish from Albright College.
About Mighty Writers
Mighty Writers is a a non-profit organization that teaches more than 3,500 kids to think clearly and write with clarity so they can achieve success. MW hosts writing and mindfulness workshops at their Mighty Writers center in Newark NJ. They also operate in Camden, Atlantic City, and Philadelphia. MW provides elective classes at Link Community Charter School 7th and 8th graders, has hosted Link’s Kindergarten and first grade students at their facility for literacy experiences, and participated in literacy events for Link families.
