Each July, Link runs a golf outing to increase awareness about Link Community Charter School and raise critical dollars to ensure a high quality, core values based experiential education possible for Link scholars. This all started in 2002 when Rich Mullarkey, Anthony Coscio and Jim Gervasi got together to talk about how to support the school, which they learned about through former trustee and advisory council member Chris Garavente. They were impressed with Link’s program and results, and wanted to support Link’s first major capital campaign to fund technology in the school, so they created an event that built on their shared passion for golf.
The event has grown over the years and contributed over $1 million to Link. Friends of the school and their guests – men and women – from all over the tri-state area (and beyond!) have joined in this annual event. Many return year after year, along with new golfers each year. The 2015 Link Golf Committee decided to make the event more convenient to Link’s golf friends but to also offer a great course for play, hence the move to Plainfield Country Club in Edison, NJ – just one hour from NYC. The course, founded in 1880 was designed by the renowned Donald Ross and recently restored by golf architect Gil Hanse. PCC has hosted a number of golf tournaments over the years, most notably The Barclays 2011 & 2015.
